On arriving there is space for two cars, and even a bag for litter! Two large embedded columns give information about the sites history, linking them to Burton Iron Age settlement and Anglo Saxon usage.
Steps lead down into a wide open area into which seem to flow a number of tributary springs - though given Cheshire and Lancashire had some flash flooding last night with horrendous thunder and torrential rain, much of this wider area was a mud bath.
The further from the car parking has a small recantangle 'basin' near which on my visit water flowed clear and fast; a much more obfuscated stone slab square basin, moss covered, with an outlet is to its left - though nettles may make it hard to access and see. Wellies recommended!
This wider area flows into one main outlet at the west of the enclosre; ruined wooden rail gives the impression that access used to be available from the north too.
A really nice, peaceful spot. |
