Only a short section remains on top of the inner bank of the Iron Age hillfort. The hills defences were remodelled by the Saxons and the Normans, before the site was abandoned. A lot of the stone, especially the dressed stone, was taken elsewhere to be reused. The rubble core is flinty, reflecting the local abundance of flint nodules in the soil. |
