A last view out over the chevet, across the ravine, to Les Chambres d' Alaric. In this part of France the co-incidence of dolmens with grottes and eperons-barree (defensible lookout points) and avens strikes me as significant. To reach the Alaric dolmen I pass la Caouno de Moux (the village where we live), where over 200 skeletons were found in the '70s. The concealed second chamber still contains them - but has been concreted-over. And not fifty paces away from this dolmen is an aven-opening in the cliff, leading down at a 45 degree angle, out of sight. The Megalithic Portal may not be the place in which to explore these occurrences - but I aim to show some examples on my blog www.dolmen.wordpress.com |
