Just north of Cerrig Duon, there are many split and/or splitting stones scattered around. Fascinated (but not very knowledgeable) as I am by geology, I particularly liked this one which had obviously come apart fairly recently, as the 2 parts fitted together perfectly.
I assume that the severe temperature changes up here mean that frost can get into the layers in the sedimentary rocks and eventually erode & split them apart? This one was about 1m long, in a stream near SN8441 2186 |
