This shot shows the 'scooped' crescent-shaped stone from end-on [centre right], and 'beaky' stone towering above it. Next to 'beaky' you can see a rubble-y infill of stones, that seem to be supporting it. In pic 1 you can see the way the 'scooped' stone together with 'beaky' frame the highest points on Dartmoor at SW.
I wonder if this feature is man made, or just a fluke of nature?
If it IS man-made, when was it built? |
| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2007-11-18) | See also pic 3, of the whole set-up. Opinions on this much appreciated! | AngieLake (2008-07-14) | See new theory about this feature in article on site page. If Victorian quarrymen were re-enacting an old legend about the Phoenicians, it is possible that they wedged this stone upright with the rubble shown here. [Just above centre left, below squared-off stone]. | AngieLake (2008-07-15) | Having just viewed Lyn Swan's photos of vitrified stones, I'm now wondering if the 'infill rubble' could be this too - maybe a lightning strike?? |
