Description This huge stone (over 60 tons!)stands at approx NNE of Grange Circle, and formed one of the two main 'focal points' of my ritual movement dowsing exercise on a 2001 visit. (The other was the 'V' notch in the stones at SW of circle). My compass-reading gave its position as 30 degs from the centre of the circle.
It is called 'Rannach Cruim Dubh' ('Prominent Black Stooper') according to some information I had back in 2001.
The curious little stone to its left here has been called a 'Goddess idol'.

"The largest of these stones is in the shape of a massive rectangle, four feet thick by seven feet wide, with fourteen feet above the ground and five more sunk below the surface. To hide the rocks which supported the bases of the stones, clay was packed down to a depth of over two feet across the entire area of the enclosure."
('Circles & Standing Stones' by Evan Hadingham, 1978 edition)
