The stone capped mound (about 8 feet in diameter) is one of four modern constructs covering the locations of four special areas. These were arranged in a very regular square and appear to have been used for sighting moonrise extremes through NE openings in the surrounding earthwork walls. From postmarks and charred areas, the four "corner areas" appear to have had small structures and hearths built on them, or perhaps structures that were burned intentionally.
