The stone is illuminated by evening sunshine through a convenient break in the clouds. The last few miles to this spot involved an interesting drive down very narrow Cornish lanes. |

Keep on visiting boring sites which are just piles of weedy earth..... | JimChampion (2007-08-15) | I'm new to menhirs. There aren't really many around where I live, so I have to visit them on holiday. I found out about the existence of this one from a parish millenium poster. I've seen a few of these around (at Osmington Mills for example), where just before the Year 2000 they created an illustrated map of their parish with points of interest and history. The one with the Longstone on it (Sithney parish) was in a window at Trevano house. I've also found that some of the Cornish parishes produce little leaflets/brochures about the things of interest in their parish, usually describing their standing stones and other prehistoric sites, along with folklore. | TheCaptain (2007-08-16) | Many French towns and villages have similar things, often maps with pictures, or guided walks with items of interest, on the noticeboards outside their Mairie (village hall?). Some will go so far as to have leaflets available. These usually have so much more information available than their English equivalent, and are invariably my first point of call when looking for stones in France, if I haven't got a detailed map with anything marked on it. On my last visit to Normandy I found several stones I had no idea about beforehand by this method - just going for a look at the Mairie.
Wish they all did the same, it cant be too difficult, and it would be a good thing for British towns and villages to do too. | AngieLake (2007-08-16) | Excellent pic! |
