The stone seems to be a glacial erratic (it isn't made of local stone) and this face is highly polished (due to ice and the action of water?) and very pale. A plough scar can be seen at the top of the stone suggesting it has been buried at some stage.
If this location is original (it is not not mentioned by JD Sainter but he does mark seven stone circles in this area on the plan in his book) then this stone may well have been visible for quite a distance due to its pale and polished surface. |

(2009-05-07) | A plough scar would be rust coloured. May be a glacial scar. |
