This is a panoramic image taken from aprox 20m above the Avenue with the early morning dew helping to define the earthworks around the stones. The A303 runs behind the site with further barrows visible beyond that.

Note to editors, I thought this would help show the road situation from a viewpoint more understandable from a human perspective. |

MAny thanks for this Adam. | VirtHist (2007-07-30) | Very interesting perspective! | AngieLake (2007-07-30) | Is that angled mark centre right, leading from the wide causeway opposite the Slaughter stone, towards the new path and NW station stone, an old trackway? | archaeologysafaris (2007-08-02) | Yes it is, I'll give more details later, but it can be seen in old photographs, try finding a copy of the Julian Richards book, Stonehenge a History in Photographs. It has had many tracks accross it. | AngieLake (2007-08-02) | It's fantastic that you can see this from the air, but you'd never notice it on the ground! There must be SO much we can learn from aerial photography. | tiredchris (2009-09-15) | Yes, and bring in TimeTeams "magic" geophis............. |
