Description The Nine Stones circle near Belstone. Photographed in interesting moody evening light in late spring.

This is very atmospheric John. Lovely colour and shapes of the rolling hillside too. I feel as if I'm there. Spirit of Place, anyone?

Thank's Angie. I took a few more shots that evening and also the day before but the light was so different cold and lacking any special magic. The one I really wanted (an upright one) didn't photograph well as the contrast was too great, but it did capture the idea. They're online at http://www.pbase.com/johnfr/nine_maidens_stone_circle

Mmmm.. I see what you mean, but I DO like that one... it's quite artistic. Photos don't have to be absolutely perfect for me, it's what they convey that does it. (BTW, have you seen Jackdaw's? - very artistic!)

Beautiful timing with the light and nice composition.

I liked this one too! The hills, with their uniformed arrangement, leads the eye to the distant landscape only to bring focus back to the main subject of the stone circle like a sudden revelation! I swear I could feel the dying rays of the sun on my face and smell the moss and warm earth.
All the photos on this web page have been very interesting but I would have to vote this one The Best. Well Done!

It really is a beautiful area, and JohnF has captured it so well. I'd agree, it is by far the best shot on the site page!
I did nominate it for 'Spirit of Place', a special section we used to have on Meg P. [Assume it still exists?]
