(2003-09-05) | Something that is very interesting about the Avebury site for me is the Ridgeway. I parked up at the Sanctuary and looked across the opposite side of the road and a sign said "The Ridgeway, Ivanhoe Beacon xx miles". I come from the Chiltern Hills so I know exactly where Ivanhoe Beacon is. Many people fly kites and model aeroplanes up there as it's quite a high point. Shame that the Sanctuary is just a marked site with concrete posts now, but there remains just one stone at the site. If you visit Avebury you should visit it as it's an important part of the whole complex :) |
