Merryton Low 1 is a dilapidated, badly weather-eroded burial mound about 6-8m in diameter. It's surmounted by a whopping great trig point doubling as a war memorial to 5th Staffs Leek Battalion Home Guards 'C' Company an has a short Roll of Honour to the Memory of P.T.E. Michael .R.Stafford, L/BDR Leslie H.Horobin, GNR Basil Cope and R.M Commando Norman Tatton.
The site can be accessed along paths from the nearby road.
Word of warning. This hill is used for flying model aircraft and sudden decapitation by the wings of a small plane doing 50mph is a real possibility. |
