| Posted Comments: waldrudi (2007-07-17) | This stone we called the "Teufel's Stein". The devil (Teufel) we were told slept there in sideways position. The head rested in the upper cavity, the large center was made by the body and the legs were hanging down. On the other side is a cavity we called the seat. The stone is near the Wackelstein. As kids 1940's and 1950's we played in this forest and hopped around on these stones. Nowadays the "Amaliendorf Waldfestival" is held annually in July or August. Next to the Wackelstein is a cliff where once a quarry was started. The side of this rockface points away from the village. In 1945 or 1946 a huge amount of amunition was detonated in this hole. Amaliendorf had many large boulders which were cut-up and used to built homes. Already back in the late 1940's a brassband would march through the Wackelsteinstrasse - then called "Schnurrbartgasse"- and lead us to the party till late at night. I am Rudi Parnigoni and live now in Canada. |
