The inner rampart is in the foreground and to the right. To the left is the area within the camp from which material was quarried to build up the rampart. There are also two bowl barrows in this region. One is large and obvious, seen here towards the left (at grid reference ST89804545). The other is smaller, with its right hand side overlain by the hillfort rampart (at grid reference ST897945440). In this photo it is in front of and to the right of the larger barrow, behind the wooden stile. The scheduling extract says that a cremation was found in the smaller barrow during partial excavation in the 19th century. |
