The hill was an iron age univallate hillfort, but here the slope is dominated by a pair of medieval lynchets (the darker green strips). A well-trodden path shows the underlying chalk soil - the hill is a chalk outlier of Salisbury Plain, surrounded by clay. The Cley Hill trig point is just visible top right. |
