|Description ||All the mystery is missing at this forlorn little circle,Trees and undergrowth all gone and the majestic Beech lopped. The fence is broken as well. What is to become of the site.|
Give it time to heal, it might look good. I'm guessing EH must have authorised this.
Oh my God! I hope the tree, itself, is going to be saved? Thanks for this Hamish.
William Stukeley's 1723 etching of the site shows it as being completely devoid of trees, and certainly without a metal fence and metalled road. The tree felling/branch lopping was something to do with fungus.
Did any of the admins take a photo of this view last weekend?? I was wondering how the poor old tree is recovering. [Assuming it is still there, and not completely felled!]
It still looks pretty much the same. The sawdust had dispersed and there's a bit of undergrowth behind the tree now.
