Description A panorama of 4 photos taken from the south in February 2007. The ditch around the circle can be clearly seen, and presumably is the result of recent farming.

When I visited it was glorious sunshine at the Grey Mare but when we reached KRC a foggy thunderstorm rolled in from the sea - I thought we were going to be struck by lightning!

It was cold and clear (obviously) when I visited. The path up from the Grey Mare however was awful - about 2 foot deep in churned mud from the local farmers tractor.

The sudden onset of fog here is annoying. Several trips to Eggardon have been thwarted in this manner. Neat panorama. As for the ditch - there are pics of the circle and comments talking about it being in an arable field, so presumably the monument was ploughed around. I've only ever seen it in a grass field, with cows grazing (lots of dairies around this area).

I may be mistaken, my memory is not what it should be, but I believe that the first time I visited this many years ago, the field was bizarrely (because of the need for much water) used for growing maize. Thankfully the circle was left well alone inside the crop, and the ploughing around it has caused the ditch effect. Pity they ploughed up to it so closely, but I guess we have to be thankful it was mostly left alone.

That ditch is far too big to be a plough furrow.

Not saying its a plough furrow. Just years of ploughing away from the area left within which the circle sits. There was no such feature years ago, except for the hardened ground of the circle, and the cropped soil around it.

The aerial photo shows that the ditch follows closely around the stones, and is therefore irregular and not circular. There is no entrance gap so it isn't a hidden henge. It must be years of ploughing right up to the monument as thecaptain says.
