Originally Seleucid City on the Wst bank of the EUphrates. Found in the 4th century BCE, Dura-Europos was finally conquered by the Sassanids (fom the current Iran) around 258 CE.
Note the 2 km long town wall on the western side. On the eastern side, the town is protected by the Euphrates and a cliff. |
