Description A narrow lane zig-zags through the next lower bank at Old Sarum giving access to car park. This shot was taken mid-day, looking East, if I remember correctly, and shadows seem to confirm this. Notice the long, very straight road, left of houses, approaching from that direction.
(The Amesbury to Salisbury road runs left to right in valley below banks).

Yes, this is the view to the east from the eastern entrance to the hillfort. The long very straight road is the Roman road heading east from Sorviodvnvm (the Roman settlement, possibly located at Old Sarum).
