'Me and my shadow', in the middle of the bridge, on the bottom of the huge ditch - 6th December 2006. (Nicola and Jim seem to be thinking along the same lines these days, too!) |
| Posted Comments: JimChampion (2007-01-02) | Its a very big ditch. Did you pay to go into the motte? And was it worth it? | TimPrevett (2007-01-02) | Paying gives the full experience of Old Sarum, and good views from the top. if you have EH membership, you of course just wave your card... | AngieLake (2007-01-02) | I was lucky enough to WIN a year's English Heritage membership through a SW newspaper recently, just in time for this, and my Stonehenge visit!
Yes, Jim, it was well worth going into the fort area. Lots of ruined buildings and illustration boards showing how it once looked brought it all to life. Of course, there was a good view down onto the 'old cathedral' ruins too, so you could appreciate how big it was. It felt rather precarious standing on top of the narrow southern bank looking towards Salisbury. Such a steep drop there, and me nervous of heights! |
