Yadlee Stone Circle to north of Spartleton. I took this in early September 1990. Trying to find it was a nightmare (in the days before GPS) by pacing from the nearest electricity pylon. As you can see the stones are very small. You can see 5 of the stones with my ruck sack next to the biggest. |
| Posted Comments: thecaptain (2006-12-14) | looks like the Exmoor stone settings for size of stones ! I hope to hunt down more of those next year. | TimPrevett (2006-12-14) | I have in the past two weeks put another portal contributor in touch with a local farmer who knows Exmoor well, and supplied me with many photos of the Exmoor stone settings ages ago (all on the portal). If you want to network, give me a shout. | minteddy (2006-12-19) | My stone circle bible: John Barnat (1989) Stone Circles of Britain, describes this as follows "Although this circle has vewry small stones, their even spacing suggests this is a true stone circle. The interior of th site is level."
There are actually seven stones but only 5 can be seen in the photograph. From what I remember I flattered the grass down to take the photograph but the tussocks were too large to show the other two stones.
I'm curious how East Lothian is linked to Exmoor. It is intriguing | Andy B (2006-12-20) | On the map it looks like a very long walk from the road - is it easy to find? |
