Furzenhill Barn sits on one side of a gently sloping valley with the Cheltenham Road Plantation barrow about 250m away on the other side.
The barrow itself is under grass and perhaps a metre high, in the middle of a large ploughed field.
I took this photo from the side of the road which runs to the south of the barrow. As it was a partly cloudy day with a low November sun I was able to capture the barrow in direct sunlight and the far side of the valley in shade, so it shows up as a bright green mound in front of a dark background. On a day with uniform lighting, or when there is any sort of crop in the field, I think it would be difficult to spot.
On the road south of the barrow there is a lay-by about 300m to the west. The road was quite busy even on a Sunday but there is enough of a bank to be able to walk along to it quite safely. |
