Carry on down the hillside and you will eventually arrive at the Barmishaw Stone (now very badly faded, but featuring 'Ilkley Ladder' style markings), and further on to Willy Hall's Wood Stone amongst the trees. A line of stones that seem to follow the course of the spring which emerges at Willy Hall's spout. |
| Posted Comments: Bennett (2003-07-04) | This carving was first described by Stuart Feather in 1961. If the carving is contemporaneous with other cup&rings on these hills, the fact that it is on the vertical face of the stone implies it to possess male spirit properties. The nearby Badger Stone exemplifies this characteristic as it was a place where "badger men" met, traded, & did god-knows-what-else around the time of the equinoxes. |
