(2006-11-04) | It was very cold, and overwhelmingly gorgeous - but I had come prepared. I could have stayed another hour (flask of earl grey awaiting in the car), but was summoned home for domestic duties. This was my first visit to Arbor Low alone, and it was amazing to have this all to myself for 75 minutes. The camera battery (newly charged) didn't like the cold, though, and continually threatened to run out.
The visit was also blessed by bumping into two senior folk of the Northern Earth team who were departing as I arrived. ;o) JB. | AngieLake
(2006-11-05) | Do you think there are times when the stones themselves deplete the batteries? (I have an ordinary camera) Only, I had all sorts of problems at Trencrom Hill (granite rocks, etc.) with sluggish shutter speed, and my photos are weird too. I've just filled a photo album with those unusually poor Cornwall holiday pics from Sept, but the shop excused this by saying the 'free' films were not up to scratch. (It wasn't that cold in Sept!) | JimChampion
(2006-11-05) | I'd probably agree with the shop. On one special occasion I bought some proper film for my automatic 35mm camera and the colours came out very nicely. After that I went back on the 'free film' and the colours were terrible. Same camera, same processing company, different film. Cornish gorse and heather in bloom was almost unrecognisable, the colour was so bad. | Andy B
(2006-11-06) | I've always got on really well with 'free' films from the big name labs, mind you this is going back 5 years - who knows what they give you these days as the film labs are probably cost cutting trying to stay afloat! | AngieLake
(2006-11-06) | This is the impression I got Andy. Digital cameras have taken over now, but I still like the old format. By the way, bought myself a pack of Fuji 35mm films from ASDA today. Will see if they're better! | TimPrevett
(2006-11-06) | Angie - concerning batteries in some ways I'd like to think so, but on this occasion definetly cold. I kept getting low battery warning, so I would put it in my pocket for a few minutes, and then it would be fine for a few shots. *However* my previous camera completely failed me watching midwinter solstice sunrise at Mitchell's Fold. Fine during twilight, but as soon as the sun began appearing, the camera ceased working. I know others who have drained batteries phenomena too. |
