Another atmospheric view of the Wyke Down barrows that overlie this middle part of the Dorset Cursus - I've recently found out how to selectively improve and change contrast and levels so that you can see detail in the shady foreground and have a bright, interesting, sky at the same time. (The original photo looks very different - you can't see anything in the bottom half of the photo because its so dark). |
| Posted Comments: jackdaw1 (2006-10-23) | Good atmospheric/long shadow capture Jim. | JimChampion (2008-04-01) | This photo now on the cover of 'Beyond the Grave: New Perspectives on Barrows', edited by Jonathan Last and published by Oxbow Books (link). | AngieLake (2008-04-01) | Well done Jim! | Andy B (2008-04-02) | I remember this amazing photo, how did they spot it for the book? I've discovered from a free copy of Digital Camera magazine that they sent me to try and tempt me that this is called by those in the buzz word know HDR photography and that it is 'all the rage'. They show how you can merge together several different exposures of the same photo into one to bring out the full dynamic range of the scene. All too advanced for me but I'd be pleased to see some HDR examples in our subject area. | JimChampion (2008-04-03) | Sorry to say that they spotted the photo on flickr.com, not on the Portal! There are many bad examples of the so-called "HDR" technique (often garish), and fewer good ones. |
