Green Low is a highly important Bronze Age round barrow which was found to contain a beaker burial accompanied by a large collection of prestige grave goods.
The site was first excavated by Thomas Bateman in 1845. Inside the mound, Bateman discovered a cist containing a skeleton in a crouched position along with a beaker and a number of bone artefacts. The remains of an infant lay close by. In 1963, the site was re-excavated by Barry Marsden. He unearthed a large number of animal bones and some flint instruments.
