It was erected in 1910, a copy of a medieval cross in Illogan churchyard. It stands on a two-stepped base with an inscription in lead lettering. The well chamber and chapel were 'rediscovered' in the 19th century - perhaps part of the motivation for erecting this cross was to emphasise the "Christian" nature of the site (given the various pre-Christian customs and associations of holy wells)? |
