Description The Herefordshire Beacon (aka British Camp) was constructed around the 4th century B.C. and in the centuries following, more banks and ditches were built lower down the hillside.
This iron age hill fort is one of a remarkable series of such sites that extend in a belt from the Dorset coast into north-eastern Wales. It is larger than many and also one of the most imposing of these ancient structures. It's unlikely that it could have withstood a long-sustained siege due to there being no natural water supply within its defences. The fort probably ceased to be occupied about 50 A.D. at the time of the Roman invasion.

I love walking around here and the rest of the hills. The views are great and I can't help but wonder about the events that have taken place here over the thousands of years.

It's a great photo AJK - makes me want to visit. I know what you mean about the feelings you get at these places... even more so when you have them all to yourself.

Thanks AngieLake, I always try to take the kind of photos of such places that make people want to visit. I was lucky to have the whole site to myself and it can spoil it a bit sometimes when there are lots of people walking about in brightly coloured clothes. Anyway, it really is a great place to visit.
