The original building, built for James III about 1477, comprised a lower vaulted wellhouse and an upper chapel. During the Reformation the chapel was destroyed but the lower vault continued in use as a burial vault for the Lairds of Restalrig. In 1906 the vault was excavated, buttresses replaced and a new roof, complete with statue of St Triduana, was added. It is easy to see the difference between the new and the old masonry. |
