|Description ||This is the almost-submerged, closest hut circle to the reservoir at Fernworthy. Just below the main car park at Fernworthy Forest, these three hut circles are exposed after long dry spells. The end of a decent summer (like the intense hot dry spell in 2006!) is a good time to come and see! |
This is one of a set of 11 photos taken on 12.08.06, to record their positions.... though, with global warming, they may become a common sight!
|Looking at the photo, just above the most pointed stone on the bank opposite, might be another hut circle. One is marked there on a plan in Butler's book 'Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities, Vol 2 - The North'. He says that RH Worth, who excavated huts 1-5 in the 1930s, felt that this one in the foreground may have been a cairn with all the small stones removed.|
|Hut circle No.5 in plan.|
