Looking approx NE across the middle of the highest-and-driest of the hut circles towards the dam at Fernworthy Reservoir. Between it and the water is the second driest hut circle. These are exposed after long dry summers. (Or short, extremely hot summers, as July 2006 proved to be!)
The third, and nearest hut circle to the water, is just out of sight to centre right, behind the nearby tree.

Such refinements have rarely been reported but a similar arrangement occurs at hut 2 Lowton Brook E and at Metherall circle 6, excavated by Worth.”
The stones lining Hut 5 at Metherall looked more complete, but perhaps were laid by later tinners? |
