Description Kiss-in-the-Ring stone circle. Seen here looking to the south, from the end of the longest known prehistoric stone row in the World. The most magnificent Dartmoor stone row can be seen from here (in reality, if not this picture), running over the top of Stalldown Barrow hill in the distance of this picture.

Excellent Martyn! Especially as I'll probably never walk all the way to that one. Good to 'visit' like this. Did you say the tallest stone was to the west?

The tallest stone, by quite some way, is the one on the right of this picture, which is three stones to the west of where the row enters the circle.

Mind you, there is evidence of a fairly large stone fallen below the survivors, which may have been the conjunction of the row and circle.

Excellent perspective on this ring of standing stones, Captain. The tallest one looks a little incongrous here, but it is what makes the shot ! Sited to the West, If due West, it had no doubt a great significance at a particular time of the season - Spring Solstice perhaps, as a sign of the regeneration of the crops for fertility and survival...? Which in those times, could not be taken for granted, unless the Gods of Nature' were worshipped. Conjecture, yes! - but that is what makes these sites so enigmatic - and always acts as a magnet to some of us.......!
