In the grounds is this large menhir. Talking with the owners of the stores, they were very proud of this stone. IIRC, its location was one of the very few places where they could dig down without hitting bedrock immediately, and during its erection, a visit from the county archaeologist allegedly confirmed its siting on a ley line which goes through St Magnus' Cathedral in Kirkwall. |
| Posted Comments: hailstones (2006-08-02) | Looks a lovely place/stone setting for a rest and picnic after all that thirsty work cycling. It was re-erected?from where? | TimPrevett (2006-08-02) | They didn't say, and I didn't ask. I think it's a 'brand new', as brand new a stone can get. |
