The Angel Mound's town was surrounded on three sides by a stockade made from tree trunks set about four feet into the ground and covered with a wattle and daub mixture. On the east and north side was a natural slough (still a feature today.) A section of the stockade wall has been reconstructed, in place, using modern materials for longevity.
