The shelter of Roc des Sorciers, exposed fully to the South, opens Jurassic cliffs of Dousse, approximately 1,5 km from the borough of Angle-sur-l'Anglin, on right bank of the river Anglin.
This layer of middle Magdalenian occupies with the cave of Marche (Vienne) a key position in Poitou. It is truly a reference for this period of Magdalenian. It extends around fifty meters and includes two distinct parts: - upstream, the Taillebourg Cellar which corresponds to a typical hall - downstream, the Bourdois Shelter which is a shelter under-rock with weak corbelling. In the Taillebourg cellar, a rich lithic and osseous industry of middle Magdalenian existed. Many fragments of sculptures fallen at the time of a collapse probably due to tectonic phenomena were also released. Among those an imposing side of vault is decorated with representations of bisons. The Taillebourg Cellar also delivered several sculptures of horses and a bust of man seen in profile coloured red and black. Several of these carved blocks are presented at the Museum of the national antiquities at Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Only a carved bison is still visible on the wall of the Taillebourg Cellar.
