Description This poor menhir is totally enclosed by massive undergrowth, and just the top of the 3.5 metre tall stone can be seen poking its head out.

Despite the proximity of this stone to many of the showcase megalithic sites of Brittany, it is not well loved and looked after.

In fact when I toured Brittany last year, I found many of the megalithic wonders there terribly cared for, which I was most surprised about. The megaliths are a major attraction of the area to people, and bring in thousands of tourists each year, yet the majority of the megaliths are very badly looked after, with seemingly just the well known tourist trail sites kept clear of jungle (and not even all of them).

That's what happens when you have too much of a good thing all in one place, I guess! It must be hard to monitor and protect them all.

I keep some tools in the car for some impromptu clearing of dead vegetation on public land, but this one takes the prize.

In Germany they are trying to introduce public works projects for the long term unemployed so that they can improve their benefits. Keeping Megaliths clean seems like a worthy cause I will try to suggest if I meet the right people.
