| Posted Comments: thecaptain (2006-05-08) | Another amazing place. Thank you very much for all these pictures Magalhaes. Its incredible to see pictures of megalithic sites like this from all over Europe these days. | Magalhaes (2006-05-09) | This one is indeed impressive for the mix. It sort of evocates something precolombian. It also occured to me that if antas entrances are oriented towards the East, then catholic churchs' altars are automatically well oriented too. | thecaptain (2006-05-09) | You too have noticed the common link that many of us here have thought for a long time. Most of these ancient places (be they simple burial chambers or perhaps more likely some sort of place of worship) face towards the east or southeast. It is not a great leap of faith to see these places sort of becoming christianised into the churches of today. In fact it is quite clearly seen here, as it has in actuality happened. In a similar manner, to some of us it can be seen that the ancient menhirs have perhaps slowly transformed into crosses. And again, at many places, ancient menhirs have been carved into more modern crosses. It all seems to me that the spiritual needs of mankind in Europe 6000 years ago were perhaps met by structures and symbols not very different to those used today. | AngieLake (2006-05-09) | I love this photo! |
