from some angles it looks taller than Khufu's as it is built slightly higher on the Giza Plateau.
It has an 14 Meter long by 5 Meter wide and about 7 Meter high central chamber connected to the surface by a long very narrow sloped passage to the north side. There is an other chamber lower down, but it is currently not accessible. There is a 3 meter long pink granite sarcophagus still in the chamber.
On the south side, there is a sattelite pyramid for the queen.
Khafre was Khufu's second son, and succeeded to the throne as Djedefre died died relatively early.
Khafre has a wonderful statue in the cairo Museum and an other slightly less well preserved one in the Aswan Museum. |
