There are five column bases remaining in their store room, still in situ. One can be seen on entering ths shop, turning immediately right and looking through a skylight down to a one the bases.
If visiting early in the week, and early in the day, you can call in to ask nicely to view the bases. Permission may be granted subject to the needs of the business, so do not be surprised if you are politely refused. If allowed, you will be accompanied by a member of staff on your visit.
The mediaeval floor layer is actually cut several feet deeper than the Roman, hence the extended appearance of the bases. |
