I was also suprised not to find it on the OS maps, so this explains the 'is it?-isn't it?' situation quite clearly. Must be one of the easiest to access from the roadside anywhere in Britain? | nicoladidsbury (2006-03-20) | The article on the main page wasn't written by me unfortunately Angie, tho I found it very interesting too. I think the most easily accessable stone circle has to be Long Meg, as the road goes right through it! Thanks for you comments. It was lovely up there. A seldom seen part of the lakedistrict, and beautiful because of that fact. | AngieLake (2006-03-20) | Oh dear - (DOH!) - how *could* I forget Long Meg???!!!
I seem to have started something with that quote from Wainwright! I was using his book when I visited Blakeley Raise, or Kinniside, as he called it. Did you drive towards the coast from here? I remember seeing a great view of the sea (and the Isle of Man?) after leaving the circle on the way to Muncaster Castle. | nicoladidsbury (2006-03-21) | We drove Northward, homewards for me, back up to CaerLugh (Calisle)! There are great views over to the sea. I was quite suprised at how lovely it was up there. |
