| Posted Comments: Thorgrim (2005-01-26) | This is not "cup and ring" rock art. It is Class1 Pictish and dates from the so-called Dark Ages. (see Elizabeth Sutherland's Pictish Guide). Suggest it is re-classified | tiompan (2005-01-26) | sorry Thorgrim but the keyhole motifs are relatively common in rock art . they may have had some influence in the much later Pictish class 1 monuments but are certainly much earlier. | tiompan (2005-01-26) | there are quite a few marked rocks in the Garlieston area , mostly cups ,rings , keyholes etc. those with deer carvings are thought to be Iron age and are covered in turf , sadly I can't find any pics of them . | Thorgrim (2005-01-26) | OK - Sutherland describes them as horseshoes with frogs - not something I know much about so am happy for others to decide. |
