In the New Kingdom, the pharaos prefered stealth for their tombs and kept tight security on the west bank of the nile. A separate caste of artisans lived there just to built the tombs and no one else was allowed there in order to avoid tomb robbers. Even the Pharao only visited the west bank twice, once to chose the location of his tomb, and once to move in... permanently. |
