The ritual barque originally sitting on the altar was found intact by French archeologists and taken to the Louvre.
Ptolemeic era Temple of Horus. It was probably the best preserved temple in Egypt as it was pretty much covered in sand and many of the reliefs escaped damage from Christians.
The temple was symbolically linked to that of Hathor in Dendara. Boats would shuttle statues of the two "married" gods from one temple to an other.
There are great reliefs of Horus defeating the Evil God Seth, who murdered his brother Osiris, Horus' father. |
