(2006-08-27) | AngieLake - I think you've hit the nail on the head so to speak. Also it has protected the head of the stone from the action of the weather and "modern" acid rain. It would be nice to see the cap removable on the important days in the yearly cycle. | rldixon
(2009-01-11) | my own thoughts on the helmet are that it is to stop water getting into cracks at the top of tthe monolith which would then freeze and crack the stone due to expansion :) only a guess .. neext time im there i'll try find out if there is an official story |
