The site has been in use since the Bronze Age with Romans building the temple of which the current ruins are visible. A large black polished rock was worshiped as the anthromorphic form of Aphrodite/Venus. Ritual prostitution was allegedly also practiced at this temple. The temple was mentioned in much Latin Poetry and other ancient accounts. |
