This site has a very long history. The neolithic maltese temple forms the foundations. The Carthagenians/Phoenicians set up a temple to Ashtarte and even carried out human sacrifice at this site. After Roman conquest, the temple was dedicated to Venus and then became an early christian basilica in late antiquity.
The foundations for columns and an interesting floor pattern of red with white spots are notewhorthy.
Could this be one of the temples Veres was robbing from? |
