| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2005-11-22) | Great fun! I love weird and wacky things, and they don't come much wackier than this! (Almost looks like a modern arrangement??) | Thorgrim (2005-11-22) | I like the big one with the conical cap | thecaptain (2005-11-22) | The whole of the St Just megalithic wonderland iss wierd and wacky. The whole place gave me mixed up feelings of not knowing what the heck was going on. There are such a mix of monuments, and most have been altered many times throughout history. This row, for example, goes over the top of an older cairn. Chateau Bu has been rebuilt and added to several times. Many of these ancient places I get a feeling of calm and contentment, but here was something extremly odd, and I just couldnt make up my mind about it. I didnt think it was a happy place, but there was a very strong feeling of power and history. | Thorgrim (2005-11-22) | Are you sure that it is ancient. Those multi colured stones must have come from several different locations surely. Could they have been erected recently? From the photos - they don't seem to be very weathered | thecaptain (2005-11-23) | This alignment has actually been dated, as it was excavated by CT Le Roux 1978 - 1981. Associated with this row, where the large stones are, as it passed through a cairn, there are postholes from an unknown structure, which perhaps were part of a construction involving the stones. Various dates were obtained for different parts of this strange arrangement, from 4000BC until 1800BC.
All of this stone, the grey/black schist, the dark red whatever, and the white quartz is to be found naturally fairly nearby. |
