He also mentioned reaching the open moor from Fernworthy Forest via a ladder stile. Well - here he is, still smiling before hitting the 'brick wall' (aka - 'Dartmoor tussocky grass'!) and, luckily, be-wellied in preparation for the muddier area near the stream, as we'd come out further down the hill than we'd intended. On the way back we followed a field boundary wall running ene across a ridge from the twin circles, entering the forest where we'd intended to 'exit' it, a little further north of this dip in the hills. Then, despite constantly checking our compass and OS map, we got lost. (Problem is, the forest roads wind around in circles, and aren't signposted!) It was a bit scary, as night began to fall, but we retraced our steps, and eventually ended up back beside Froggymeade circle. The almost-full moon shining down made standing in the circle too good an opportunity to miss! Maybe we were meant to get lost?! Lovely experience.... will the pics come out though?????
Was it all worth it? - I should say!
Grey Wethers was so beautiful (we DID have a sunny afternoon) and I didn't want to leave. Go there if you can. |
| Posted Comments: hamish (2005-11-20) | Thanks for that Angie. It was a great day, the polar opposite of the visit to Froggymeade I only got wet that day. | AngieLake (2005-11-20) | Careful how you say 'polar' Hamish! Snow next time?! |
