Contact them for permission to reproduce it. |  | | Description | Close to St Piran's Cross; the site of St Piran's Lost Oratory on Penhale Sands, north of Perranporth. In the left-hand photo the huge cross on top of the sand-dune can be seen lit by the setting sun, its side edge picked out in shadow. This will give 'hunters' an idea of the position of the mound covering the lost oratory!
The photo on the right shows the easterly aspect of the memorial stone, with 'ST. PIRAN' carved on it.
It is quite a pleasant little stone, about a metre high, with ridges like 'fingers' down its face, which can just be seen here. A lovely walk on a sunny evening. |

(2005-10-25) | St Piran's Cross is several hundred yards away to the east, approximately. Both are marked on an OS map. It wasn't possible to put this on as a separate site. | AngieLake
(2005-10-25) | I've posted another pic tonight, of St Piran's Cross, looking towards the modern cross, showing much greater distance between them than you see in this picture above. When you compare them, it will give an idea of distance between this Oratory site and the later chapel next to the St Piran's Cross, which has recently been excavated, and is due to be featured on southwest TV next Monday night. I think there may be confusion about the position of the Oratory. (Someone had added, 'very close to St Piran's Cross', but it isn't!) | Thorgrim
(2005-10-26) | The point is Angie, that the Portal doesn't include site pages for medieval churches, chapels or oratories. The only way we can use your photographs is to attach them to the St Piran's Cross page or leave then unassigned in the Dark Age section of the History Gallery. I very much wish that we did include medieval churches, but we don't. | AngieLake
